Stratford-upon-Avon, a medieval market town in England’s West Midlands, is the 16th-century birthplace of William Shakespeare. Possibly the most famous writer in the English language, Shakespeare is known for his sonnets and plays such as 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'Hamlet'. The Royal Shakespeare Company performs his plays in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and adjacent Swan Theatre on the banks of the River Avon.


The area contains a variety of stunning historic houses for you to visit ranging from the splendour of Ragley Hall, the creativity of the sensory garden at Charlecote Park to the atmospheric Shakespeare's Houses.

**Blenheim Palace** OOB

Birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill and home to the Duke of Marlborough, Blenheim Palace is one of the finest baroque houses in England and is set in over 2,000 acres of landscaped Parkland and Formal Gardens.



Charlecote Park

Charlecote Park has been the home of the Lucy family since the 15th century. The current house was extensively remodelled in the Victorian times by Mary Elizabeth Lucy and it is presented as it was when she was the mistress of the house.


Hall's Croft

Named after Dr John Hall, who married Shakespeare's daughter Susanna. This impressive 16th century house, with Jacobean additions, includes outstanding furniture and paintings as well as an exhibition about medicine in Shakespeare's time.



Ragley Hall, Park and Gardens

Ragley Hall, Park and Gardens, the Warwickshire home of the Marquess and Marchioness of Hertford, is set in 27 acres of beautiful formal gardens.


Shakespeare Birthplace Trust

This is where the Shakespeare story began. As the house where William Shakespeare was born and grew up, Shakespeare's Birthplace has been welcoming visitors for over 250 years. Shakespeare also spent the first five years of married life in this house with his new wife, Anne Hathaway.

Mary Arden's Farm

Mary Arden's Farm. Wilmcote, 5 miles north of Stratford-upon-Avon. Great for a family outing, the timbered farmhouse was the home of Shakespeare's mother before she married John Shakespeare.

Holy Trinity Church is one of England's most beautiful and most visited parish churches. It is the place where William Shakespeare was baptized, worshipped and buried. Many other treasures lay within this holy place worshipped for 800 years.

Burton Dassett Hills Country Park is a series of rugged hilltops with spectacular views in all directions and Fox Covert, a small woodland with a surfaced footpath.
